Our photos are a close guide to what you’ll receive, but a few factors can cause the finish, color, and texture to look slightly different in person. Here’s what affects how our pieces appear, and how to get the best sense of a finish before you order.
Why your piece may look different from the photos
- Screen and print settings. Your monitor or printer may shift colors slightly, so an image can look a little different on your screen or on paper than it does in real life.
- Lighting. The lighting in your room changes how color reads. Our photos are taken in typical home lighting, but fluorescent bulbs can add a cool blue tone, while incandescent bulbs lean warm with yellows and reds.
- Natural wood variation. Each piece of solid wood is one of a kind. Density, tone, grain, and knots vary from piece to piece, so while we aim for consistency, yours will have its own character.
Getting the best sense of a finish
We don’t offer wood samples, so the best way to judge a finish is to browse all the available images for the product, including customer-submitted photos and pictures of other items in the same collection that share the finish. It also helps to picture the piece in your own space, since lighting and surrounding furnishings make a real difference in how the finish appears.
