VOCS
At Grain Wood Furniture, we take the health and safety of our customers seriously. That's why all our products undergo rigorous testing, including checks for levels of VOCs like formaldehyde. "VOC" stands for Volatile Organic Compounds, which can be found in both natural wood and the finishes applied to our products.
It is essential to understand that natural wood does contain some VOCs such as terpenes and aldehydes. These compounds are released from the wood in minimal amounts and are typically considered safe.
Similarly, the finishes we use can also contain VOCs to facilitate application, drying and enhance durability. However, as the finish undergoes curing and drying processes, the levels of these compounds released into the air decrease over time.
While we cannot avoid VOCs coming from natural wood, we can make changes to our finishes. We're actively developing VOC-free finishes for some of our products, aiming to create a safer environment for our customers and our hardworking team.
Rest assured, before our products reach your home, they undergo thorough testing for VOCs in a lab setting. We simulate a typical room environment and measure the concentration of different compounds released into the air. And the results? Well, all our products have tested below the maximum VOC emissions specified by regulation, ensuring they meet the strictest standards for indoor air quality.
So, when you choose our products, you're not only getting quality craftsmanship, but also peace of mind knowing that your health and well-being are our top priorities.
What is the California Proposition 65 warning?
If you're curious about the California Proposition 65 warning, we've got the details you need. In compliance with California regulations, any product that might contain chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm must include a warning.
Our products, crafted from 100% solid pine wood, don't contain any substances from this concerning list. However, in the liquid stage of our current paint, three components are present. But don't worry! Once applied to the wood, these components evaporate to a level that's entirely safe for you, our valued customers.
Safety is our top priority, for both you and us. We take health standards seriously, ensuring our products meet stringent regulations to keep everyone safe and sound. For more details, check out the California government webpage on Proposition 65.
